Recovering Wisdom

The great irony of our age, is that in though we are saturated with information, wisdom eludes us. The technological advancement of our society has spun us a myth that we are the intellectual and moral superiors of those who have come before. However, delving into the spiritual writings of the past few hundred years will uncover a level of intellect, education, and probing into the human nature, that should destroy any vestiges of chronological snobbery in any honest man. We are not nearly as smart or as wise as we once have thought. Yet this treasure trove of wisdom goes largely untouched in the church, largely because it is difficult to read and understand.

The purpose of this page is to scour spiritual classics and bring their wisdom to our modern ways of thought and speech. I will not translate these works, but paraphrase them or even rework them altogether to fit our modern age. I will also be reworking some of the material to speak more directly to modern evangelicalism. If you have a suggestion for a book to do in the future, leave it in the comments below.

If my writing helps you, great! If it encourages you to read the original source material, even better. The ultimate goal of reading these spiritual classics is to grow closer to the God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ. S.D.G.

P.S. My understanding is that the works I am rewriting are public domain and I am therefore not violating any copyright laws. If you are the owner of the copyright of any of the works on this page, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
